Two journal articles will be written on the basis of data from the longitudinal study of children in out-of-home care. Children in out-of-home care have significantly more somatic health problems than children in the general population. These problems may inhibit the children in their daily activities if they are not tended to or compensated for and may result in severe effects on their development, as this group of children is vulnerable with multiple risk factors for adverse outcomes. The objective of this article is to identify the extent of health problems for children in out-of-home care compared to children of the general population, and to a socially disadvantaged group that has, though, not been cared for. Secondly, the children in out-of-home care with the greatest health problems will be identified. What characterize these children compared to other children in out-of-home care? Who are they? School failure is a major problem for children placed outside their home and causes inferior chances of education, labour market participation, earning one’s living, etc. in adult life. The objective of this article is to descriptively present results on schooling experiences and performance of children in care compared to their contemporaries in the population as a whole and to socially disadvantaged and not cared-for children of the same age. It also focuses on analysing the characteristics of children in out-of-home care who have troubled and turbulent school careers.
