Ministries, regional authorities and municipalities, and occasionally, private organisations, request evaluations by the Institute in the area of welfare and social policy.

This is because the Institute has established a solid knowledge base over the years, and a high level of credibility, and because this commissioned work is based on research knowledge and development which private consultancy firms cannot offer.

The Centre is focusing on improving implementation of commissioned projects so that they become even more directly useable for customers/users. This is taking place through close dialogue, solid utilization of existing knowledge, international perspective, and targeted communication.

Departments
Since 1 January 2003, work on evaluation projects has been organised into three research departments: Employment and integration, Social policy and welfare services, and Children and family.

Knowledge-sharing and cooperation
The Centre is endeavouring to have larger projects tackled by teams in order to exploit best the Centre's multifarious competencies. The Centre often works alongside other research institutions and with private consultancy firms concerning tenders and successful completion of large evaluation and elucidation projects.
