| A limited number of places are available. To sign up, contact transformingcare@sfi.dk. Kindly notice that you are required to find your way to the museum on your own ”Oldetopia” – an Exhibition on Ageing, Longevity and Health As the world population is growing older, traditional notions of age and ageing are changing too. Women in their 60s can become mothers, men still be rock stars. The new ‘old youngsters’ do not look and behave like their parents in their old days. They are culturally active citizens that demand their share of social and economic resources. They have adult grandchildren and their parents are vigorous too. Such changing cultural notions of what is means to grow old are reinforced by recent developments in the life sciences. Biomedical research promises to provide the foundation for new preventive strategies and new therapies against a number of degenerative diseases. The exhibition on ageing, longevity and health is focusing on the interplay between current biomedical research and such changing cultural notions of age. The exhibition will utilise the rich medical history collections of the University of Copenhagen, supplemented by new acquisitions of artefacts from biomedical research laboratories, hospital clinics, and other museums. The aim of “Oldetopia”, as it will be called in Danish, is to contribute to the public engagement with medical studies of age and health by showing recent advances in biomedical ageing research in a cultural and historical context. The exhibition will open October 2007 in the building of the Royal Academy of Surgeons from 1787, now Medical Museion of University of Copenhagen. >Getting there (map and adress) - You can find the english link in the right corner at the top See >Pictures from the opening night |
