Placements in Out of Home Care

Del
In the paper I attempt to estimate the effects of placements in out of home care on long run outcomes such as education, labor market status, teenage motherhood and crime. I focus on all children born in Denmark in the period 1981-1986 who has been placed in out of home care for the first time at the age of 0-6. Children placed in out of home care constitute a highly selected group and, therefore, it is difficult to find a suitable control group. Propensity score matching is used to overcome the selection bias embedded in the study population when estimating the counterfactual outcomes of placed children if they had not been placed.
